The Okanagan Chefs Association is a member of the Canadian Culinary Federation (CFCC) and the World Association of Chefs Societies (WACS) which is a global association of Chefs.
We are a not-for-profit group of Chefs, Cooks, Junior Chefs and Associates whose primary purpose is to network and promote culinary professionalism. With the understanding that our Junior Chef members are the future of our industry, we provide support and mentorship, as well as bursaries to encourage and promote culinary education. Our community outreach involves participation in many local charity and fundraising efforts.
Seven of our monthly meetings are dinner meetings, and are hosted by our members. The dinner meetings provide opportunities to visit many of the Okanagan’s finest restaurants. For 2017 we have scheduled two of our meetings to be educational sessions to provide further education and opportunities to our membership. Typically we have a guest speaker at meetings to provide our members with information on the latest culinary trends or products available. We meet for 10 meetings per year, with a hiatus in July and August.
Membership on the local level provides occasions to become involved in the National CCF. For those individuals interested in culinary competitions, there are prospects to compete both provincially, nationally and ultimately on a worldwide level. Some of our members have been involved in the Junior Culinary Challenge, the Canadian/Nordic Culinary Challenge, and Team B.C. These individuals have travelled to Vancouver, Toronto, Norway, Luxembourg and Germany.
Local membership also provides opportunities to network with fellow chefs, with job opportunities often realized during dinner meeting conversations. Some of our members have had opportunities to stagier, furthering their education.
All Membership Types:
This membership is open to those who have attained their Professional Chefs accreditation. In B.C., this would be the Red Seal. They can also qualify for membership if they have been a professional working Chef for several years, with the approval of the Executive Board. They have full membership in the CCFCC, and full voting privileges. Their yearly dues cover the cost of all meetings per year.
Junior Chef Membership
This membership is open for a Culinary student or apprentice, who is working towards acquiring their professional accreditation, but has not yet received it. They are Junior members of the CCFCC, and have no National voting rights, but do have 1/2 a vote on the branch level. They are welcome at all meetings along with Chef & Associate members. They pay a small yearly membership fee, but must pay at the door for those meetings they attend.
This membership is open to those that are not a Chef or Culinary student, but are involved in the Culinary industry. They might be a supplier for a food distribution company, a Winemaker, Baker, Cheese Maker, etc.
